SAFETY TRAINING

To become a full member of TBCC, you must take and pass a Club Level Safety Course, as well as do Supervised Shoots before you can shoot on your own. The Thunder Bay Combat Club provides this training at no extra cost, your membership fees already include this. We have a team of CSSA certified Club Level instructors and Range Safety Officers ready to provide you with the training. This is not the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) or Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC) but rather club level training supplemental to those courses.

Club Level Safety Courses are held regularly throughout the year as new members join. In addition, we also do a Holster Course with you as several of our disciplines require the safe use of a holster. The curriculum involves a written test, a practical test in the classroom, and a live fire test on the range. All live fire activities have a 1-to-1 student to instructor ratio. Members joining from other clubs require proof of completion of a club level safety course forwarded to us and will be handled on a case by case basis. Even if you don't have your PAL or RPAL yet you may still begin the safety training with us as you wait.

WHEN CAN I DO IT?

Club Level Safety Courses are held throughout the year, typically on the fourth Monday of the month at Arnone's, so please try to plan around that to ensure you are available for the course. An email will be sent to you when the next one is being held. Once you join you are automatically put on the email list.

Supervised Shoots can be done at any time. There is no fixed number of shoots you must do, when our Club Level Safety Course instructors feel you are safe and competent you will be signed off. Club nights on Mondays and/or Wednesday are generally the best time to do Supervised Shoots, however, if that does not work for you please email our Safety Training Coordinator at safetytraining@thunderbaycombatclub.ca with your schedule and we will find instructors to work with you to complete the shoots.

NOTE: You do not need to email us if you are coming to a club night for a Supervised Shoot, we will always have at least one certified instructor there.

If you have any other questions or require any more information please email safetytraining@thunderbaycombatclub.ca at your earliest convenience. It is vitally important that this training is done so we can all be safe and have fun on the range!
